I love the new Simple Stories Vintage Bliss line.  The colors are muted and beautiful.  I used it in the blog hop last week and I created this piece for the Memory Works April Express Kit blog post and I wanted to share it here too because I really love how it turned out.

I used my Nestabilites label dies--both the Grand Nestabilities and regular sized to create the layers.  I also added lots of ink on the edges.  I had Nestabling from Want 2 Scrap and added that as an edge for this piece.  

I used another Spellbinders die to create the rolled rose and leaves.  The dangling charm was a sticker from the embellishment sheet, covered with an idea'ology fragment.  The laser cut butterfly came with the kit, the two smaller butterflies are Recollections and the bling from my stash.  The seam binding was colored with Distress Ink.  The garden stamp I picked up at StampScrapArt from Rubbernecker stamps.  The little dangle teardrop is from Maya Road.  I love how it turned out.  Wait, I think I said that already.  Need a Memory Works consultant?  I'd be happy to show you all the great papers, embellishments, stamps, inks, tools and other supplies we carry and hook you up with Simple Stories Vintage Bliss supplies.

thursday again

Here it is Thursday again, time for another posting.  I have had these photos out, cropped and ready for scrapping for months now.  I even picked out the papers I wanted to use, I just never got around to getting them into my scrapbook.  I finally decided to play around with them this week.

These are Lily Bee Double Dutch papers.  They have such a summery, playful feel to them, perfect to scrap an annual, early summer fair held to benefit our local hospital.  While I didn't mix any other papers with them, Lily Bee's prints always seem perfect to mix into other lines.  Their prints are so versatile and I find I cannot resist buying them.  

I used some pennants and banners to pick up on the banners seen in the photos.  I took my granddaughter Eden as a treat since she was sleeping over and who better to join her than another 6 year old and my nephew Evan was the perfect companion.  I decided it would be one of those nights where they could try anything they wanted and the anit-gravity bounce, a bit of a splurge, was a hit.  They were both far more fearless than I thought they'd be and went on every thrill ride they were tall enough to ride alone.  No way I was getting on those.  :)

They played the carnival games and won prizes, ate pizza and ice cream and we finished off our day with a ferris wheel ride just in time to see the fire works from a great vantage point.  

The Bella Blvd washi tapes are perfectly matched with the colors here and I used Recollections Polaroid frame around a couple of the photos.  I played with embellishments, fashioning first some pinwheels, then layered flowers and finally decided on simple hearts.  Of course I've inked my papers with Peeled Paint Distress inks.  I love inks.

you are my sunshine

I hope you enjoyed the blog hop yesterday.  It is so fun to check out everyone's work.  The TeamWorks girls are all so talented.

Here is what I have for you today.  I took this photo of my granddaughters one night this past fall.  It is so hard to get them in a photo together with both looking at me and smiling.  Sugar Pie (aka Dinara) just doesn't stay still for long.

I was scrapping with my friend Jacque and she was finishing off a layout that featured a sun burst and when I pulled out this photo and thought about a title it came to me, I needed to try to make my own sun burst as these two girls are my sunshine.  I used Studio Calico papers from Take Note.  These double-sided papers gave me the flexibility to make the burst.  I used Marvy Uchida punches for the circle, scalloped circle and McGill punches for the heart and tag.  I stamped the frogs with a Stamps of Life frog stamp on patterned papers from the 6x6 paper pad and cut them out.  The "notes" card is from Lily Bee and the alphas are Sn@p.  I inked almost everything with Vintage Photo Distress Ink and used  red and kraft scraps to mat my photo.

crop time

I finally got around to scrapping crop night from Creating Keepsakes Convention last July. I had the privilege to crop with two great scrappers and friends. Although the room was too crowded, and we spend too long waiting in line, I had never attended the Saturday night open crop before and I am glad I tried a new experience.

The papers are from Authentique, Spendid line. I used the new WeR ribbon tool to sew in the zig-zag of green. It is just one of several options. The tool is very easy to use, you punch the holes and sew in the ribbon. Of course I added distress ink around all the papers and embellishments. The crochet flower and corrugated butterfly are from Kim Baum, one of my friends that I am cropping with here. All in all, it was a great scrappy escape with good friends, how does it get much better?

I created this canvas after seeing a project by Tim Holtz. He and another crafter created canvases using the same materials but their completed projects were so different. I was inspired to create my own canvas using manilla tags. I colored and inked and spritzed and embellished and came up with this. Each tag is unique and has something on it that inspires me. I used a lot of Tim Holtz/Ranger/idea'ology products as well as Wendi Vecchi stamps, Distress Inks and bits and pieces from my stash. I love how it turned out.

To quote my friend Michele, "Don't ya just love the subject line? ME lol" I don't usually do page layouts about myself but decided to put my photo on this page. It is the same photo you see here on my blog. When creating layouts, it's sometimes harder to come up with the photos than the layout. This particular page is somewhat "artsy-fartsy" or "airy-fairy" which is what they say on BBC's Hotel Inspector to describe something that focuses more on the art than the photo. I like airy-fairy better. Yes, I've been watching way too much tv over these last months. Back to the page. I had fun creating the background layering on pieces that I made.


I made the left side background first, actually a couple of months ago. I started with watercolor paper and added distress inks to it using the Ranger tool with the sponge pad attached. I put on masks and added more Ranger distress inks and the added Tattered Angels glimmer mists. I stamped using Ranger Artistry stamps and Prima Build a Swirl stamps in Stampin' Up inks. Idea'ology journaling tickets were stapled on and an idea'ology metal wheel is attached with a random brad. I took a silver metal word, "imagine" and inked it with alcohol inks and inked a grunge board faceplate to frame it, attached with bronze brads from my stash. I inked some idea'ology fragments with alcohol inks and adhered them to highlight parts of the words.

The right side is made from strips of grunge paper from idea'ology. I cut 1" strips, inked half with distress inks, sprayed them with glimmer mists and then dry embossed them with a Cuttlebug folder. The other half of the strips were inked, stamped and then sprayed with glimmer mists. I then wove them together to create a 3" piece to border my left side.

I put them together on a piece of kraft colored card stock, inked the edges with distress ink and then decided to sew the two pieces on. After searching high and low for my sewing machine, to no avail I thought, why not blanket stitch the piece by hand? I am glad the sewing machine didn't turn up. I used green crewel floss and stitched the piece after piercing the papers. I also added a couple of "x's" to join the two pieces. I really liked the final outcome of the background. I matted a photo of myself and added "me" in Thickers that I toned down with some ink. The whole page has such a tactile look and is much better in real life that this photo shows. So, this is me, trusting, hoping, soaring, imagining, dreaming.
