Tim Holtz posted this challenge on his blog and seeing as this tattered floral die is one of my favorites I had to play along.

I've had these photos for sitting in my to-scrap pile for a while now.  I made a mini album with pics from the event but I wanted layouts for my scrapbook as well.  The flowers I made are in the corners. 

The patterned papers are Simple Stories Documented, an older line, but the pinks pulled me in and I had to use them.  

I created the flowers by first taking plain white cardstock and layering washi tapes on them.  It doesn't photograph well here, and I guess I should have taken a photo of the paper before I started die cutting it.  I used washi tapes from Recollections and criss-crossed the tapes until most of the paper was covered.  Then I ran it through the die.

I layered in some old denim as well.  I tried to add color to the washi tapes with stains and Perfect Pearl mists but the surface of the tape wouldn't absorb the color.  I could have gone with alcohol inks but I wanted most of the design on the tapes to show through.  I cut the leaves from some felt.  I love layering flowers with this die, it is so versatile.

memoryworks teamworks 2013 blog hop!

It's time introduce the MemoryWorks support team for 2013!  I am delighted to be included on the team for a second year.  Today we're sharing the projects we submitted as part of our application.  

You should have come from Amanda's blog http://amandasscrapattic.blogspot.com ; isn't she talented?  I am always inspired by her work.  Here is what I submitted:

I used paper scraps and the Tim Holtz snowflake die to create a fridge magnet or a clip to hold a special card or ornament for my altered/decor project.  I also created the snowflake just for fun.

My first layout is very traditional, featuring Simple Stories Fabulous papers.  Close ups below.

My second layout, read to me dede makes use of patterned papers layers to create an interesting background with just enough solid cardstock to make the photos of my granddaughters pop.

This tag can be attached to a card front or gift.  I played with inking techniques and used chipboard pieces and papers from my MemoryWorks Express kit.

a new post...finally

I've been working diligently on scrapbook layouts but haven't done much here lately. I've done a few different projects and layouts that I really like. Here is one I did of a photo I found of Rebekah, dressed up as Strawberry Shortcake. This layout actually started out as a tag. I had scrapped four mini-albums, from scratch mind you, about 80 pages plus covers. I was all scrapped out. Jax came over to scrapbook and I finished a layout I had started. When I am burned out like that, I like to pull out stuff and play. That's how the tag got started. Once the tag was done, I couldn't set it aside, I loved how it looked. I saw Strawberry Shortcake and knew they would be perfect together.
I started with a Tattered Angels tag that had some print around the edges. I added inks and stamps and then a die cut of a bird in a cage. The photo doesn't do the tag justice, the birdcage is paper covered with an old lace doily, the bird just paper. Maya Road chandelier dangles hang off the tag. Prima flowers and rhinestone swirl pull it all together. I made the ticket strip with the Tim Holtz ticket die and stamped it with one of his ticket stamps on patterned paper. I think there is some October Afternoon in here as well. Everything is distress-inked, of course.

tag art

I created this canvas after seeing a project by Tim Holtz. He and another crafter created canvases using the same materials but their completed projects were so different. I was inspired to create my own canvas using manilla tags. I colored and inked and spritzed and embellished and came up with this. Each tag is unique and has something on it that inspires me. I used a lot of Tim Holtz/Ranger/idea'ology products as well as Wendi Vecchi stamps, Distress Inks and bits and pieces from my stash. I love how it turned out.

atc

I just completed an album for a customer that Grace from Stacie and Gracie's Scrapbooking Shoppe passed off to me. Since this album is a gift for my customer's son I thought I'd add in a little piece of artwork for her. I created this atc using some of my favorite things--K&Co. paper from the Margo line (it was a scrap really); some solid cardstock, stamps, metal pin, fragment and Stickles all from Ranger/Tim Holtz/idea'ology lines. This shows front and back. I like the idea of creating atcs to pass onto customers in the future.

Altered Art

On vacation this summer I had a chance to finally try out a kayak and I am sold! I have wanted a canoe forever but now a kayak has hit the top of my list. I went shopping yesterday to look at some basic recreational kayaks and hope to field test a couple soon.



Meanwhile, I have been working on a few projects. This is an altered art tabletop or desk "frame" that I made using an old game board as as a base. I dropped alcohol inks to create the splotches, tore ads from an old Life magazine and some paper scraps that were hanging around in my basket. On the "kiki" side I used felt Thickers alphas; distress crackle paint which I then dabbed over; crackle effects on the journal tag and an "idea-ology" pin. I made this into a two-sided piece by then decorating the opposite side with more ads, papers and inks. This time I used sepia accents around a couple of the photos; "idea-ology" fragments with alcohol inks and an arrow made from grungeboard which I painted with dabbers and wrote on with a white pen. I really like how it all turned out.


I've also used stamps, "idea-ology" adage tags and laid a thin coat of crackle effects over the distress crackle paint to sort of seal it without adding shine. Yes, I really do love my Tim Holtz supplies. These two events are my daughter's move-in day at college, her sophmore year, and Labor day with my niece, nephew and granddaughter.

Today

I had lots of fun today. I went on a mini road trip with two friends to a couple of local scrapbooking stores. One, Memory Lane or "mlpa" had ordered a mask I was interested in and it was available for me to pick up. I also picked up some Making Memories Christmas papers and sticker alphabets, some Scenic Route papers and another stencil. Mlpa has the newest stuff and plenty of it. From my home to Quakertown is about an hour. From there we headed over to Gilbertsville to Inspired Treasures. They had some of Tim Holtz' "idea'ology" items that I was missing. They said they'd be getting some of his new stuff in later this month or early next month. I also picked up some great "Thickers"--I love their alphas. Inspired Treasures has some really great project samples, new and different from the same-old. I went shopping, not really needing anything and somehow managing to spend about $75 between the two stores. Hmm. I finally made it home late this afternoon, ready for another dose of Tylenol and lunch/dinner. I really had to do some straightening around the house before delving into my new goodies. Now I'm feeling my 5:15am wake up and wanting to sleep and wanting to play all the same. It's too early to tell which will win.
